Support our cause!

Support our cause!
It will be an honour if we could prove to the World that we make a real change to the environment through our simple action. What happened on Pulau Harapan (Harapan Island) or perhaps other places in Indonesia and other islands around the World: The impact of marine trash on the lives of children.
Because of it, we are trying to raise funds by selling Mata Cinta products for the continuation of the pilot project on the children’s nutrition and environment on Pulau Harapan, Kepulauan Seribu, Indonesia.

Pulau Harapan
Pulau Kami
Masalah sampahpun bagai bom waktu.
Dampak sampah laut kini tampak nyata.
Demikian pemikiran kami.

YUK KERJASAMA !

Pulau Harapan
Our Island
Our pilot Project started around 2017,
The reality of marine trash impacting the small island with a beautiful name , Pulau Harapan (Island of Hope), Kepulauan Seribu, 2 hours away from the country’s capital Jakarta by speedboat raises concern.
Marine trash is dominated by single use plastic wrappers from the Jakarta Bay and Lampung that bombards the Islands on certain seasons. It damages the mangroves and the coral reef.
According to an FGD we conducted with the locals as the respondents on the island, we found out that fish had been decreasing in the sea around the island since the last 10 – 15 years, causing the locals to change their livelihood. The best quality fish is reserved for the tourist or made into fish crackers for income. The wave of vendors from Java selling fried snacks has become common on the beach and many small stall selling drinks to snorkelling tourists at the National Ocean Park and the Turtle Farm.
The children’s nutrition and family health becomes a problem as the price of shipped goods from the mainland of Jawa becomes expensive for the Islanders, making it difficult to fulfil the basic need of protein, vegetables and fruits, and also made worst from the lack of knowledge of a healthy diet.
This problem is a timebomb. The wrappers from consumer goods has littered the island.
Waste has become a real problem,
We cannot wait till the ocean becomes clean,
We cannot wait till the fish flourish again,
The children’s development cannot wait, the basic nutrition needs and how to prepare healthy food is a priority. Next is the managing of the school canteen and vegetable garden as a showcase of a simple healthy food source which will be followed by waste management and the empowerment of the Island’s economy that is eco-friendly.
That is our mission.
For that purpose, we collaborated with Gemass Indonesia (gerakan makan sehat anak sekolah – Healthy children school meals movement) and started the first stage of the pilot project ‘Pulau Harapan Pulau Kami’, by educating the teachers, students and parents on nutrition. The initial result was promising as many mothers participated in the cooking contest, making non fried fish with children and chefs as the judges in the last event of education. Our hope is to build self-confidence and so that they can take turns helping provide school lunches at the canteen.
Thank you to ACP (association of culinary professionals) Indonesia dan PT Nutrifood Indonesia that have help support the first stage of several cooking training programs given by chefs on the island.
Unfortunately,
The Pandemic came in March 2020, temporary stopping our program, but hopefully we can later continue supporting and give new hope to the island.
Our objective is simple,
We want Indonesia to have a successful role model with a solution that can be used by other islands faced with the same problem so the they can be self-sufficient and not have a lost generation due to malnutrition.
May the Universe support our cause with help from friends of Mata Cinta wherever they are.
